Vietnam's latest COVID wave tally surpasses 5,000 cases as 52 new infections added Friday morning

(VOVWORLD) - The Health Ministry confirmed 52 new local COVID-19 cases Friday morning, bringing the number of infections in the ongoing wave to more than 5,000.

35 of the new cases were in Bac Giang province, 14 in Bac Ninh province, 1 in Thai Binh province and 2 in Hanoi. 

The cases in Bac Giang are all linked to clusters at industrial parks and had been isolated prior to testing. 

11 of the cases in Bac Ninh are associated with the province’s industrial parks, and a cluster in Thuan Thanh district. For the remaining 3, health authorities are looking into their source of infection.

1 of the 2 cases in Hanoi got infected after a trip to HCM city. The other case had contact with a confirmed COVID-19 patient. 

The patient in Thai Binh is related to a former cluster and has already been isolated. 

Vietnam has so far detected more than 8,000 cases with more than 3,000 recoveries and 49 deaths.
