Vietnam’s nine-month GDP growth hits eight-year record

(VOVWORLD) - The GDP growth rate for the January-September period was 6.98 percent, the highest for the same period over the past eight years, the General Statistics Office announced on Friday.

GSO Chief Nguyen Bich Lam said at a press conference in Hanoi that agriculture, fisheries, processing-manufacturing and export continued to be the driving force of the economy. 

He added that macro economy remains stable, inflation is under control and unemployment is showing a decreasing trend.

The average CPI growth for the nine-month period was more than 3.5 percent year on year, while export value increased by more than 15 percent. Business sentiment is optimistic with the Nikkei Vietnam Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) constantly rising from 51 points in March, reaching a peak of 55 points in June. The volume of new orders for export also continued to increase in August, according to Nikkei.
