Vietnam’s poverty rate continues to drop

(VOVWORLD) - As of the end of 2017, the percentage of poor households and near poor households in Vietnam had fallen to 12%, down 1% against the previous year, according to a Government report.

The report, presented at the National Assembly Standing Committee session in Hanoi on Monday, deals with the implementation of a National Assembly resolution on poverty reduction targets until 2020.

According to the report, many targets set out in the resolution have been reached or exceeded over the past four years.

Bui Sy Loi, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for Social Affairs, said economic development must go hand in hand with ensuring and improving the quality of people’s lives.  

The National Assembly Standing Committee also gave an opinion on a draft law on the prevention of and fight against the harms of alcohol.
