In his remarks, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Phan Van Mai said the relationship has been steadily consolidated, and cooperation between HCM City and the UK has also seen progress, especially in trade, investment, education, health care, tourism, and cultural exchange.

He cited statistics showing that, as of July, the UK ranked 11th among the 120 countries invested in Vietnam’s largest economic hub, with 273 projects worth nearly 960 million USD.

Mr. Mai said: “Ho Chi Minh City, with open policies, a young and dynamic population, lower labor costs, and a highly skilled labor force, is a gateway for UK businesses to exploit markets and expand their business in the region.  Meanwhile, the UK can provide technology and expertise to Ho Chi Minh City to develop its infrastructure, green economy, and clean energy, and mitigate climate change.”

British Consul General in HCM City Emily Hamblin said she hopes Vietnam will achieve its set targets, and that the UK will continue to be a reliable partner of Vietnam and HCMC in the coming decades.

She praised the close cooperation between the UK and HCM City, especially in finance and smart city building.
