(VOVworld)- President Truong Tan Sang received in Hanoi on Monday Vice President of the World Bank Rachel Kyte, who is in Vietnam to study efforts to help Vietnam minimize the impact of climate change in the Mekong River Delta. The Vietnamese President praised thanked the World Bank for supporting Vietnam in adapting to climate change and fulfilling the Millennium Development Goals. President Truong Tan Sang said climate change is rapidly and strongly impacting the livelihood of people in the Mekong River Delta. He agreed on the need to designate an authority agency to coordinate adaptation action. The President said that Vietnam was studying ways to increase mangrove afforestation, consolidate dyke and sewage systems to protect the inland, strengthen capabilities in observation, monitoring and forecasting and raise people’s awareness. President Truong Tan Sang spoke highly of the World Bank’s support to help implement these activities. Ms Kyte said the World Bank would continue to support Vietnam to effectively cope with the impact of climate change.
