WCSP5: Vietnam joins international efforts to address global challenges

(VOVWORLD) - Politburo member and Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue will attend the fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (WCSP5) in Austria, and pay working visits to the European Parliament and Belgium, and an official visit to Finland from September 5-11.

The visits are made at the invitation of the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco and President of the Austrian National Council Wolfgang Sobotka.

During the event, Mr. Hue will have bilateral talks with IPU leaders, Parliament Speakers of countries participating the event, President of the Austrian National Council, representatives of international organizations and Austrian businesses. The Vietnamese delegation expects to reiterate Vietnam’s image as an active and responsible member of the international community, especially in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, while underscoring that people must be the center of every national policy-making effort to ensure peace and sustainable development.

The two-day conference takes place under the umbrella theme of “Parliamentary leadership for more effective multilateralism that delivers peace and sustainable development for the people and the planet.”

The Speakers of Parliament will focus on priorities that require urgent international parliamentary action including the global response to the pandemic and the post-COVID recovery, the climate emergency, countering misinformation, youth participation in politics and gender equality.
