WHO: Poorer countries could start getting Covid-19 vaccines this month

(VOVWORLD) - COVID-19 vaccine deliveries under the COVAX facility coordinated by the World Health Organization to support lower-income countries could start this month, WHO immunization director Kate O’Brien said on Thursday.

Until now, wealthier nations including Britain, European Union members, the United States, Switzerland and Israel have been at the front of the queue for vaccine deliveries, she added. The COVAX facility has access to over 2 billion doses of vaccine and will likely start to deliver those vaccines in the next weeks.

Earlier, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that it’s essential to vaccinate some people in all countries, rather than all people in some countries.
