Winners of National Press Awards on Party building named

(VOVWORLD) - Winners of the fifth National Press Awards on Party building, called “Bua Liem Vang” (Golden Hammer & Sickle), were announced at a ceremony in Hanoi on Wednesday evening. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

The jury awarded one special prize, five A prizes, 10 B prizes, 16 C prizes, and 27 consolation prizes for stories promoting the Party Congress and Party ideology, exposing subversion in the guise of “peaceful evolution,” and praising outstanding individuals for following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality, and lifestyle. 
Phan Quang was named “outstanding journalist.” The Voice of Vietnam won 1 A prize, 1 B prize, and 2 C prizes.

The 2020 competition has received 1,710 entries from various media agencies in all categories, including print, online, television, radio and photo.

Being rich in themes and genres, the press works were closely focused on the country’s burning issues that captured great attention of the whole society. Some of the major themes were preparations for the grassroots-level Party congresses in the lead up to the 13th National Party Congress, and the fight against COVID-19 and natural disasters.

Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong said the Golden Hammer & Sickle awards cover timely social issues like building and regulating the Party, reviewing lessons learned from Party Congresses at all levels and personnel selection for the 13th National Party Congress, strengthening the Party-people relationship, and promoting the role of the people in Party building.

“Every journalist is a revolutionary soldier. Journalists need to keep in touch with grassroots reality, report the results of Party building and rectification in local units, recognize good practices and good role models, and expose errors in Party building. Through a conscientious and objective approach, they help the Party fulfill its leadership role by helping Party members see themselves more clearly,” Mr. Vuong said. 

The Golden Hammer & Sickle Press Award is held annually by the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, the Nhan Dan (People) daily, the Communist Review, Vietnam Television, and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association.
