Work underway to improve telecom infrastructure in remote, ethnic minority areas: Minister
(VOVWORLD) - At the National Assembly’s Q&A session on Tuesday, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung responded to questions from deputies about ways to improve journalism amid the social media boom, advertising in traditional media and online, and investing in telecommunications infrastructure, particularly in remote, rural, and ethnic minority regions.

Minister Hung said, “The telecom sector is undergoing a second renovation. Party leader To Lam says digital infrastructure is strategic infrastructure which must receive priority investment to support national digital transformation and the development of a digital economy and a digital society.”
He noted that the Ministry has defined the criteria for developing national digital infrastructure, with particular attention to remote, rural, and ethnic minority regions.
“We’re asking network operators to upgrade infrastructure for people to use online services. Vietnam has 100,000 community digital technology teams that can go to every alley, knock on every door, and help each person. We’re directing these teams to inform people about digital technology,” said Minister Hung.
Answering questions about social network management to combat fake news and false information, Minister Hung insisted that this is not just a problem in Vietnam, but a global problem.
He said the Ministry has established and put into operation a National Fake News Processing Center and localities have begun to establish similar centers, which will impose strict penalties on brands and advertisements with illegal content and will make sure cross-border platforms comply with Vietnamese law.
