Workshop “ASEAN Economic Community and Free Trade Agreement participated by Vietnam”

(VOVworld) – The workshop “ASEAN Economic Community and Free Trade Agreement, participated in by Vietnam” was held on Tuesday in Can Tho city.

Representatives presented Vietnam’s commitments to trade, services and investment in the Free Trade Agreements that the country has joined. They also pointed out the opportunities and challenges facing Vietnam as the country further integrates into ASEAN’s market. Bui Huy Son, Head of the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said: "In the context of the unstable regional situation due to unilateral actions, it is necessary to enhance solidarity and cooperation between ASEAN and other countries. As an active member of ASEAN, Vietnam has also participated in a number of Free Trade Agreements with other partner countries including Japan and the Republic of Korea". 

The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is scheduled to be formed by the end of 2015. The AEC will create a common economic space making ASEAN a unified manufacturing and investment bloc, and is expected to eventually generate annual GDP growth rate of around 2 trillion USD.
