World calls for independent investigation of Gaza hospital attack

(VOVWORLD) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Israel deeply regrets the airstrike by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, which killed at least 20 people, including five journalists and many rescue workers.

His office added that military authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the tragic mishap.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the strike and called for an objective, timely inquiry. When asked for his reaction, US President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure, saying “We have to end that whole nightmare.” French President Emmanuel Macron called the attack “intolerable”, and UK Foreign Minister David Lammy urged an immediate ceasefire.

Negotiations between Israel and Syria on a security agreement remain serious and in good faith, said US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack on Monday after talks with Syrian interim President Ahmed Sharaa in Syria. However, contrary to recent rumors, he does not expect the two countries to finalize and sign any accord by the end of September.
