(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam’s national football team beat Malaysia 2-1 in the penultimate match of Group G of the World Cup Qualifiers 2022 in Asia, which took place Friday night in UAE.

Confronting Malaysia, the Vietnamese players performed confidently and took an early lead when Nguyen Tien Linh scored from a header in the 27th minute.
Lucrecio equalized for Malaysia from a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
10 minutes later, the referee handed the game's second penalty to Vietnam and captain Que Ngoc Hai took the shot, sealing a 2-1 victory for Vietnam.
Gaining 3 important points, Vietnam continue to top Group G with 17 points, 2 points ahead runner up hosts UAE, who had a strong 5-0 victory over Indonesia in a match on Friday night.
Coach Park Hang Seo told reporters after the match that the victory is key to help Vietnam enter the final qualifying round of the World Cup. He said his players will be determined to beat the UAE in the final match of the second round of World Cup qualifiers scheduled for Tuesday.
