World Food Day 2013 marked

(VOVworld) – 2013 World Food Day is observed on October 16th to mark the 68th founding anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization under the theme “Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition”.

At present, almost 870 million people worldwide are chronically undernourished. Unsustainable models of development are depleting and placing growing threats on natural resources, ecosystems, and biodiversity necessary for the future of the food supply. Thus, the issues of food security and nutrition need to be resolved in a sustainable manner.

The Food and Agriculture Organization in Vietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development marked this event in Thanh Tan commune, Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh province. At the event, a statement was released saying that poverty reduction and new rural development are challenging tasks that could be successful if undertaken with great determination and effort.
