Xi and Kim met in Pyongyang on Thursday as part of the Chinese President’s state visit to North Korea.  North Korean media also reported the two leaders had “reached a common understanding of the issues discussed” at their summit.

Earlier, Chinese media reported on the leaders’ agreement to create a better future for relations between the two parties and two states. The international community hopes that the US and North Korea will restart an effective dialogue on the nuclear issue, President Xi said. He added that the situation on the Korean Peninsula "threatens peace and stability of the region", but that there has been a brighter prospect for resolution through dialogue. Xi said his government is prepared to play a constructive role in the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
Kim said his country has taken many positive measures over the past year, but hasn't received an active response from the relevant party. He said he hopes the relevant party will explore ways to resolve tensions and produce results.
