The Indian Embassy on Sunday marked International Day of Yoga at the October 30 Square in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh, drawing nearly 3,000 yoga enthusiasts from Vietnam and abroad.

Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thang spoke at the event, “A series of activities have been launched to mark 2020 International Yoga Day as part of efforts to promote a nationwide campaign on following President Ho Chi Minh’s example in physical training.

“It also aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and India while promoting local tourism, particularly in Quang Ninh.”

Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Pranay Verma said he hopes the event will contribute to creating a healthy playground connecting yoga practitioners in Vietnam and the world as well.

Other activities included Yoga performances at beaches in Cam Pha City  and a program entitled “Vietnam’s Yoga – Connecting Vietnamese spirits” at the Complex of Yen Tu Monuments and Landscape in Quang Ninh’s Uong Bi City.

June 21 has been designated as International Yoga Day since 2015 by the UN General Assembly.
