Senior Lieutenant Colonel Thanh is one of just a few army doctors who have received title “Emeritus doctor” at the age of 44. Thanh says President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example has encouraged him to work harder to improve his knowledge and skills so that he can heal more patients: “I understand that we can learn a lot from Uncle Ho but I personally think that doctors like us should learn from his ethics and work style. I always keep in mind his words that doctors are like tender mothers and I give the best possible service to my patients.”

Thanh has pioneered new treatment methods for stomach problems, which has opened a new direction for scientific treatment, ensuring safety and reducing cost for patients. Thanh has led many scientific research projects. His passion for science has inspired many young doctors and physicians in the hospital. Doctor Dang Thi Hang, Deputy head of the Testing and Anatomy and Pathology Department says: “We should consider patients our relatives and serve them with all our heart. Like doctor Thanh, we always do our best to fulfill our duty.”

After graduating from the Military Medical Academy, Thanh was assigned to work at Military Hospital 110 and he has been there for more than 20 years. The hospital’s political commissar, Colonel Nguyen Truong Giang says Thanh has excelled in the movement of following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example using his creative ideas to improve the quality and effectiveness of the hospital’s examination and treatment services. Giang says: “As director, Thanh always thinks about the hospital’s development. He is a man of action who dares to act and take responsibility. He helps to enhance unity and motivates us in our work.”

Thanh’s merits demonstrate his responsibility and ethics as an army doctor. Thanh says he is proud to be honored for following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example, but what encourages him most is the trust of his colleagues and patients.
