(VOVWORLD) - Dr. Nguyen Thu Quyen, a leader in innovative teaching methods at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted in Hai Phong city, uses virtual reality (VR) technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in her history lessons. This has made her classes more engaging, her lessons more memorable, and inspired greater interest in history among her students.

A lesson for the 11th grade history class at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted begins with an exciting crossword game. Historical facts are integrated with logical puzzles, visual illustrations, and practical examples. This helps students grasp the information more quickly and remember it better. Quyen guides the students in analyzing, discussing, and presenting their ideas.

12th grader Le Hong Phuc said, “Ms. Quyen’s classes are always interesting. She integrates historical facts with practical examples to help us understand. She frequently uses virtual reality technology to recreate past events.”

11th grader Dang Ha Phuong added, “We always have exciting and engaging debates. Ms. Quyen constantly explores new technologies and uses them in her teaching.”

Quyen’s use of 3D images and virtual reality apps makes her students feel as if they’re present at historic events.

Under Quyen’s guidance, her students use virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence, to re-create historical landmarks like the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, the Hue Imperial Citadel, and Cham tower complexes. Their project earned a prize at a provincial Science and Technology Innovation Contest.

During her 20-year teaching career, Quyen has introduced numerous initiatives for classroom instruction and homeroom activities. Developing VR-, AR- and AI-powered spaces for history education are the project she values most.

“My colleagues and I are motivated to develop innovative teaching initiatives. I’m always thinking about how to get students to experience historical events and interact, than merely reading about them,” Quyen said.

For two decades Quyen has guided many students to outstanding achievements in provincial and national competitions.

She is deeply committed to nurturing gifted students, constantly seeking and innovating new teaching methods and motivating students to learn. She has instilled a passion for history in generations of students.”

For her achievements, Dr. Nguyen Thu Quyen was recognized as a National Outstanding Teacher in 2024 and has received numerous Certificates of Merit, including commendations from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education and Training, and the People’s Committee of Hai Phong city. She was one of Hai Phong’s representatives at the 2025 National Patriotic Emulation Congress.
