(VOVworld) – A ceremony to mark 40 years of Vietnam’s participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) was held in Hanoi on Sunday.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan said Vietnam’s mathematical achievements have laid the foundation for Vietnam to establish a system of schools for gifted students nationwide and develop mathematics development programs: “The schools for gifted students have discovered and nurtured talented people for the nation. The system of schools for gifted students, the National Program for the Development of Mathematics and the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics are crucial to develop Vietnam’s mathematics in a sustainable way.”
