ASEAN+3, East Asia Summit: leveraging partners’ support for ASEAN objectives

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam pledges its contribution to the ASEAN+3 and the East Asia Summit progress towards an open regional structure of transparency and rule of law for peace, stability and development. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung was speaking at the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting with partners from China, Japan, and South Korea in Singapore on Wednesday.

Participants agreed on the importance of the ASEAN+3  cooperation framework and its progress attained since its 20th founding anniversary. They agreed to further enhance regional economic connectivity, particularly by timely finalizing negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), make efforts to effectively carry out existing programs and work plans, including the ASEAN+3 Cooperation Work Plan for 2018-2022. They will continue cooperating in the agreed priority fields of common interest like counter-terrorism and extremism, macro financial stability, small and medium enterprises, disaster response, food security and people connectivity.
