Cabinet members discuss the draft customs law

(VOVworld) – Cabinet members on Friday discussed the draft revisions to the customs law at the monthly government meeting for June. After 10 years of implementation, the customs law has helped to boost administrative reform, create a favorable investment and business environment, and ensure national sovereignty and security. However, government officials said, it needs to be amended, modernizing customs services to meet the requirements of the market economy. They also spoke about the responsibility of customs agencies in preventing cross-border smuggling and the organizational structure of the customs system. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung directed the Ministry of Finance, the Government Office and the Ministry of Justice to work with other related ministries and sectors to quickly finalize the draft revisions, which will be submitted to the National Assembly Standing Committee for consideration.

The same day, the government discussed some articles of the draft law regarding immigration and foreigners’ residence in Vietnam.
