Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam: Vietnam will do its best to contribute to UN peacekeeping mission
(VOV) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has underlined the political significance of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre, adding that peace can only be made when any unilateral actions running counter to international law are eliminated. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam was speaking at an inaugural ceremony for the Centre, hosted by the Defense Ministry in Hanoi on Tuesday.

He stressed that peace could only be maintained when all countries, regardless of size and power, respected one another’s independence and sovereignty and shared the responsibility of keeping peace through practical and concrete action. Dam said that Vietnam would always support and exert every effort in UN peace operations. He added the inauguration of the centre reflected the country’s consistent policy of peace, cooperation, development, and proactive international integration. It also showed Vietnam as a responsible member of the international community. The Deputy PM voiced his hope that the centre’s officers would constantly do their utmost to successfully fulfill assigned tasks in the interests of Vietnam and global peace.

The Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre is tasked with giving counselling, training personnel, and preparing, deploying and operating all forces from the Vietnam People’s Army joining UN peacekeeping missions. At the ceremony, the Ministry of Defense also dispatched Lieutenant Colonels Mac Duc Trong and Tran Nam Ngan to serve as liaison officers to the UN peacekeeping team in South Sudan. They are expected to leave for the African country in June.
