Dialogue promotes gender equality in Vietnam

(VOVworld) - Vietnam is an active participant in the “Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)” and is coordinating with UN Women to promote gender equality and protect the rights of women and girls, according to Shoko Ishikawa, Chief Representative of UN Women in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Government is now building an action plan to implement recommendations by the CEDAW Committee, according to Hoang Thi Thu Huyen, deputy head of the Gender Equality Department of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA). Huyen said that after getting the Prime Minister’s approval, the Ministry will issue guidelines for implementing the action plan. 
 A dialogue on “the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women” (CEDAW) between young people, the government, and partners took place in Hanoi on Tuesday. The event was organized by the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Vietnam.
