Meeting marks 70th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for patriotic emulation
(VOVWORLD) -Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended a meeting in Hanoi on Sunday to mark 70 years of President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for patriotic emulation (June 11).
Addressing the event attended by 700 exemplary people, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh said that on March 27, 1948, 3 years after Vietnam regained independence, the Party Central Committee issued a Directive on patriotic emulation in order to quickly win the national war of resistance. On June 11 the same year, on the occasion of 1,000 days of the southern struggle, President Ho Chi Minh released an appeal for patriotic emulation, aiming to eliminate hunger, illiteracy, and foreign invaders. His appeal has inspired and encouraged the entire Party, army, and people to uphold patriotic tradition, self-reliance, and staunchness to contribute to national liberation.
Vice President Thinh said that over the past 70 years, the movement has developed, matching revolutionary tasks of each period and helping Vietnam gain historic successes in national struggle, construction, and defense.
Earlier the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the delegates laid wreaths and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh in his mausoleum.
