The event, co-organized by Vietnam’s National Assembly’s Law Building Research Institute, the World Health Organization in Vietnam and UNICEF, has attracted many delegates from Southeast Asian nations. Seminar participants said that more government investment in nutritional strategies could lead to reduced poverty and increased GDP by at least 2% a year. Doctor Dinh Xuan Thao from Vietnam’s National Assembly’s Law Building Research Institute said protection for the health of mothers and children has become a priority. He added that Vietnam has been exerting great efforts in this field: “Vietnam has formulated policies and programs of action with the aim of protecting the rights and interests of children in recent years. The country has revised the Labor Code to increase maternity leave and the Law on advertising to ban the advertising of nutritional products for infants under 24 months. This demonstrates Vietnam’s strong commitment to caring for mothers and children”.  The delegates agreed that human breast milk would help prevent infant infections and allergies and reduce mortality rates from diarrhea and pneumonia.
