Vietnam contributes to establishment of ASEAN community

(VOVworld) - Delegates from ASEAN embassies in Hanoi shared the experience of their countries in preparing for the formation of the ASEAN Community by the end of 2015 at a workshop in Hanoi on Thursday. Nguyen Vu Tu, deputy head of the Vietnamese delegation to ASEAN, spoke at the event: "We have passed several laws on politics and security in addition to Prime Minister directives on counter-terrorism and search and rescue activities as part of our efforts to prepare for the establishment of the ASEAN Community in 2015. Vietnam has pledged to cut taxes and liberalize its market. The Prime Minister has also approved 45 out of 66 social and cultural projects on Vietnam’s to-do list to integrate into ASEAN."

Delegates emphasized the need to include preparations for the Community’s formation in the national agenda, including developing skilled and competitive human resources, enhancing educational and vocational training to ensure that young people can build on the success of the current generation, and conducting reforms to improve the national economy’s competitiveness.
