Vietnam contributes to the UN General Assembly

(VOVworld)- Vietnam has contributed greatly to the success of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, according to Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN Le Hoai Trung. Speaking at the opening of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, Trung said that UN member countries praised Vietnam’s proposals on promoting development cooperation, peace and security. He added Vietnam’s initiative on One UN has brought about practical lessons and helped improve the UN performance globally. Vietnam actively participated in the activities of the South South Cooperation Forum, and the UN Committee for Sustainable Development, according to the Vietnamese official.

In related news, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) began its 67th session at the UN Headquarters in New York yesterday. In his address, Vuk Jeremic, the former Serbian Foreign Minister, and President of the 67th UNGA called on UN member states to find a peaceful solution to disputes and conflicts. According to him, among key issues on its agenda, the General Assembly will address the Millennium Development Goals, climate change, and sustainable development, food security, the role of mediation in the peaceful settlement of conflicts, disarmament, and United Nations reform, including reform of the Security Council.
