(VOVworld) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on Thursday hosted a meeting in Hau Giang province to mark World Water Day with more than 3000 people and foreign delegates participating in. This year’s World Water Day is themed “Water and Food Security”, focusing on sustainable use of water. Addressing the meeting, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang said Vietnam has an average level of water resources but are facing water degradation: “To meet huge demand for water amidst depleted water resources,  Vietnam needs to adopt strategic and comprehensive measures, involving other sectors such as land, industry, energy, environment, science and technology and communications. Those measures include formulating policies and legal tools for planning and distribution of water sources, upgrading water infrastructure and irrigation, capacity building of management agencies, raising people’ awareness on the importance of water resources for food security”.
