Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh made the statement on Thursday during an interview with the media. He said in 2016 Vietnam basically completed the process of establishing comprehensive or strategic partnerships with major countries in the world.

“Leaders of world powers including the Presidents of Russia, China, and the US have visited Vietnam and Vietnamese leaders also paid official visits to these countries. Last year also witnessed growing relations between Vietnam and neighboring countries as well as many important multilateral diplomatic activities involving Vietnam,” said Mr. Minh.

In 2017, Vietnam will continue its current external policy to create a peaceful and stable environment.

Mr. Minh explained: “This year elections or party congresses will take place in many countries, but we insist on the policy of befriending all countries, multi-lateralizing, and diversifying external relations on the basis of independence, self-reliance, and international law to maintain peace and stability. Vietnam will continue deepening ties with its strategic and comprehensive partners, particularly with neighboring and major countries, and those with important roles.”
