(VOVworld) – Vietnam’s Posts and Telecommunications Group, VNPT, plans to launch its second telecommunications satellite from the Guiana Space Centre in orbit on 16 May. During a press conference on Wednesday, a VNPT spokesperson said that if it’s launched on schedule, Vinasat 2 will enable VNPT to retain the rights to the orbital position at 131.8 degrees east. The satellite will be carried into space aboard an Ariane 5 rocket. Together with VINASAT-1, VINASAT-2 will help Vietnam ensure its telecommunications services will remain stable and enhance secure communications. The Vinasat-2 satellite will serve some of Southeast Asian countries and the surrounding areas. Bui Quoc Viet is the Director of VNPT’s Center for Information and Public Relations 'Vinasat-2 will increase the country’s capacity for satellite telecommunications and help the country reach its marine economy development targets. It will  also benefit remote areas, responses to natural disasters, and the broadcasting industry. Both satellites have been built in the US using the most advanced technology, the Lockheed Martin A2100. The coverage of VINASAT-2 will be more extensive in the west of the country to meet the increasing demand for overseas trading'.

Vietnam’s VINASAT-2 will be launched along with Japan’s JCSAT-13.
