Vietnam values measures that build trust to prevent conflicts, promote sustainable peace

(VOVWORLD)-Vietnam is calling on the international community, especially major countries, to take goodwill actions and responsibility, abide by international law and the UN Charter, and respect the legitimate interests of all parties involved in conflicts, said Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations, at a high-level open debate on “Future-proofing Trust for Sustaining Peace” in New York on Wednesday.

Giang stressed the importance of mutual trust and understanding between UN peacekeeping missions and local governments and peoples to build post-conflict peace.

He encouraged the international community and the UN Security Council to build trust and root out poverty and inequality, which are often at the root of instability and conflict. Trust building should be a key component of the new agenda of the UN Chief, Giang said.

Giang insisted that Vietnam has prioritized trust in building national unity, in national development, and in international integration. This has been demonstrated by Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification, being a reliable partner of the international community, and participating in and contributing to multilateral forums, especially the UN, ASEAN, and ASEAN-led mechanisms.
