"Great solidarity” houses – manifestation of policies for the poor

(VOVWORLD) - Thousands of “great solidarity” houses have been in recent days given to the poor and people in difficult circumstances across Vietnam. The house donation demonstrates the Vietnamese State's humane policy and the community's effort to help the poor have a better life, contributing to ensuring social security.

Social security activities, including ensuring housing for the poor and people in difficult circumstances, have received special attention from the government at all levels nationwide during the socio-economic development process.

Outcomes of policies for the poor

During the first days of 2024, Hau Giang province inaugurated and handed over 1,400 “Great Solidarity” houses which were built with the support of multiple organizations and individuals inside and outside the province in a campaign to support policy beneficiaries, national devotees, and poor and near-poor households.

Over the past 20 years, the province has built or repaired 30,700 “Great Solidarity” houses.

Soc Trang province held a meeting to review the program to build 1,200 houses for local poor households and people with difficult housing conditions.

During the last months of 2023, many districts in Quang Nam province handed over “Great Solidarity” houses to poor households to help them stabilize their lives. Ho Thi Hiep of the Ca Dong ethnic group in Prao town, received a house.

She said: "We’re a poor family. I’m a single mother with 2 children and an elderly mother. Thanks to the “great solidarity” house, our life is now better."

Thanks to the support of the State budget and the community, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has over the last 3 years built or repaired more than 103,000 “Great Solidarity” houses for the poor and people in difficult circumstances. During the 2014-2019 period, more than 153,000 “great solidarity” houses were given to disadvantaged people.

Attending a ceremony to hand over 1,400 “Great Solidarity” houses in Hau Giang province, President Vo Van Thuong said: "With the spirit of leaving no one behind, we have accomplished a very good goal. In the coming time, we need to build more houses for disadvantaged households and repair houses that we built before."

Humane policies are further promoted

With the stance of centering on the people in all policies and planning, Vietnam aims to build more “great solidarity” houses in the coming time. At the 8th Plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee in October, 2023, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said social development should move from ensuring stability to stability and development in alignment with sustainable social development management, improving universal social welfare, and ensuring social protection, human security, and social security.

Vietnam is shifting its social protection coverage, which focused on disadvantaged groups and a minimum level of social protection, covering all people and all aspects of life. Social protection will cover not just disadvantaged groups but expand to the middle class, who lead social development. Social policies will be associated with sustainable social development management, and the social security system will be flexible, shock-responsive, and cover the entire population, leaving no one behind.

Taking care of people is the central political task of the Party and State of Vietnam. Building and repairing “Great Solidarity” houses is part of the national effort to reduce poverty and promote sustainable national development.
