Coast Guard works to have EC’s yellow card removed

(VOVWORLD) - A European Commission (EC) delegation will visit Vietnam for the fourth time to inspect the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU), according to General Tran Quang Phuong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly said during a visit to the Coast Guard Command in Hanoi on Monday.

He urged the Coast Guard to coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense and localities to quickly remove the EC’s IUU yellow card and work towards sustainable protection of the marine environment and resources.

General Le Quang Dao, Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard, said the force detected and prevented thousands of foreign fishing vessels from entering Vietnamese waters.

In 2022 and the first quarter of 2023, the coast guard saved six vessels and 71 people in distress at sea. Coast Guard ships have patrolled a total of distance of 300,000 nautical-miles, he said.
