International conference on East Sea highlights maritime economic cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - The 14th International Conference on the East Sea has focused on the role of green economy and marine economy in making good use of resources, responding to climate change, boosting economic growth and sustainable development, and enhancing multilateralism.

Themed ‘Peaceful Sea - Solid Recovery’, the 2-day conference, which concluded in Da Nang on Thursday, discussed recent developments in the East Sea, the universal value of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and cooperation to ensure maritime security through the development of science and technology and adapting to climate change.

Delegates also discussed sustainable trade, supply chains, and economic recovery and development. They said that amid the current complications, countries must strengthen their self-sufficiency, diversify their supply chains, enhance seaport and shipping services, and expand cooperation to minimize the risk of disruptions of raw materials, semiconductors, critical minerals, and green, clean technologies.
