Quang Binh tightens management of “three nos” fishing vessels

(VOVWORLD) - The central province of Quang Binh has asked districts and communes to coordinate with the Fisheries Department to register fishing vessels as part of efforts to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) seafood exploitation.

In addition, localities should instruct fishermen to follow prescribed procedures and send officers to monitor fishing vessels. Owners of fishing vessels that have a registration number but no longer operate, need to unregister their unused vessels. Tran Quoc Tuan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Binh province, said that more than 600 vessels have been licensed. The remaining 200 vessels will be processed in the near future.

Tuan said: “The agriculture sector advises the People's Committee of Quang Binh to direct the management of fishing vessel and solutions to combat IUU fishing. In preparation for the European inspection team’s fact finding trip, the sector has asked localities to strengthen the management of "3 no" fishing vessels. This is very important to get the European Commission's yellow card lifted. We have also coordinated with the Border Guard and coastal districts to prevent IUU fishing.”

"Three nos" fishing vessel is a vessel without registration, inspection, and licensing.
