Festival honors Dao ethnic culture

(VOVWORLD) - The second national cultural festival of the Dao ethnic minority group was held in the northern province of Thai Nguyen, attracting artists from 14 provinces across Vietnam.

The three-day festival featured a range of activities, including sporting events, folk games, and cuisine of the Dao, aiming to preserve traditional cultural values and promote tourism.

The Dao in Hop Tien commune, Thai Nguyen province, brought the very best music and rituals to the festival. Artist Trieu Van Thuan said, “Our commune prepared 6 performances, including Cap sac, which means ‘maturity ritual’, Vi singing, folk dances, and panpipe performances.”

Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of Thai Nguyen province’s Culture and Art Center, said, “It is a great honor for people in Hop Tien commune to perform at the festival. We bring along the quintessence of Dao culture.”

At the festival, Noong Homestay introduced unique dishes and drinks prepared by Dao people including pork marinated with liquor and herbs.

Ly Thi Chien, the owner of Noong Homestay, said, “As part of the program, we will showcase the best cuisine of Dao ethnic people in Thai Nguyen province.”

The festival’s highlights included an exhibition on the typical cultural features of the Dao, events introducing the indigenous cuisine of the Dao people, and folk games such as crossbow shooting, stick pushing, tug of war, and running on stilts.

A show introducing the traditional costumes and traditional festivals, rituals, and cultural activities of the daily life of the Dao ethnic community was also featured.
