(VOVWORLD) - Children, the future of our nation, are also our most vulnerable people in need of special care and love. In recent years, child care and child protection in Vietnam have been strengthened. Now an Action Month for Children has been launched with the theme “Join hands to minimize damage to children” to create a safe, healthy environment for children.

Various activities are being organized to prevent injuries and violence against children, ensure their rights, give them better care and attention, and enforce the laws on children. The public is being encouraged to call 111 to report violence against children.
Dang Hoa Nam, Director of the Department of Children Affairs of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, said: "Action Month for Children calls on local administrations to honor their responsibility to pay attention to and invest resources in children. Local administrations are urged to allocate more money and human resources for child care and protection at the community level. More attention should be paid to the child sex abuse, domestic violence, school violence, and prevention of child injury or downing."

Mr. Nam said post-COVID-19, many social issues that impact children have arisen that require a joint effort from the community to protect the children. During Action Month for Children, communications on reporting violence against children, child abuse, and child protection services will be strengthened.
Mr. Nam said: "In the coming time, particularly in medium-term and annual socio-economic development plans, we need to increase investment in child protection, especially in the development of public and social services and in school psychological counselling in order to address child-related issues. Ministries and sectors have implemented several models and interventions to minimize harm, abuse, and injuries to children."
During Action Month for Children, localities will continue to mobilize enterprises, organizations, and individuals to help child victims of violence. They have donated scholarships, gifts and free medical care to poor, ethnic minority, orphaned, and disadvantaged children. Support has also been given to strengthen models on child care and protection, injury prevention, promotion of children’s rights, and construction of schools and entertainment facilities for children.
