(VOVWORLD) - During the year-end of 2019, two former Ministers of Information and Communications and 12 accomplices in relation to the case of MobiFone’s purchase of 95 percent of shares of the Audio Visual Global JSC (AVG) were charged with “violating regulations on the management and use of public investment capital, with serious consequences”, and “receiving bribes”. This reflects the Vietnamese Party and State’s determination to strengthen the fight against corruption.

In 2019, there were nearly 200 corruption cases involving 500 defendants prosecuted. In many cases, defendants corrupted public property and land reserves, violated regulations on economics, and abused their authority and power out of self-interest. The figures show the Vietnamese Party and Government’s resolute determination to fight corruption. Luu Van Manh, a resident of Hanoi, says the effort is applauded by the public. “I praise the Party Central Committee’s anti-corruption efforts which have also received general public support. Any cadres, who are either currently holding posts or retired but violated regulations, should be strictly punished.”
Last year the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission strictly dealt with corruptions cases, and proposed the Party Politburo, the Party Secretariat, and the Party Central Committee to punish party members and party organizations that violated the law. Since the beginning of its tenure, the Party Central Committee imposed disciplinary measures on 70 senior officials under the Party Central Committee’s management. Associate Professor Doctor Nguyen Trong Phuc, former Director of the Party History Institute of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, said: "Imposing disciplinary measures against Party members and senior officials is very important for Party rectification, building, and development, helping to purify and sustain the Party. Each Party member, in whatever post they hold, will be strictly punished if they violate the law.”
The fight against corruption has also been boosted at the local level, informing the actions of Party members. Vietnam has fine-tuned policies and laws to prevent and fight corruption in order to strengthen the Party and the public trust. Professor Doctor Hoang Chi Bao of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, said: “The Party has a strong political determination to unceasingly fight against corruption in order to strengthen the Party. The Party has made significant progress in this effort. Any corrupted Party organization or Party members including senior officials are strictly punished under the law. These resolute measures have a strong impact on society.”
This year, Party organizations at various levels will hold Congresses ahead of the 13th National Party Congress. The fight against corruption will help screen and enroll qualified officials who are loyal to the Party and devoted to the people.
