Final vote for the top 10 culture, sports, and tourism events of 2022

(VOVWORLD) - The Culture newspaper of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism held a press conference on Tuesday to announce the final vote for the top 10 culture, sports, and tourism events of 2022.

111 events were nominated by the culture, sports, and tourism departments of cities and provinces and agencies of the Ministry.

15 events were selected for the final vote, which representatives of press outlets began at the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism yesterday, and which will continue online until Friday.

The 7 cultural events selected include the recognition of the “ma nhai” steles on Ngu Hanh Son Mountain in Da Nang city and the handwritten documents in Truong Luu village, Ha Tinh province, as documentary heritages of Asia-Pacific and the pottery craft of the Cham in Bau Truc village, Ninh Thuan province, which was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection.

Van Cong Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ninh Thuan provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said: “If we don’t restore the Bau Truc pottery craft, it will be lost. This is a unique intangible cultural heritage of the world. No other country has ceramic art like that of Bau Truc pottery village. Bau Truc pottery is an intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection, so the Vietnamese Government needs a protection policy and UNESCO needs to direct the world to preserve and promote Bau Truc pottery.”

Tourism events selected include Vietnam’s fully opening for tourism on March 15, Vietnam’s domestic tourism’s strong recovery with 110 million tourists, and Vietnam’s Tourism and Culture promotion program in South Korea.

Sports events include Vietnam’s hosting and success at the 31st SEA Games, the Vietnamese women's football team’s qualifying for the 2023 World Cup, and the 9th National Sports Games which will take place from December 9-21.

Dang Ha Viet, General Director of the Vietnam General Department of Physical Education and Sports, said: “The National Sports Games, Vietnam’s largest sports event, is held every 4 years. Talented athletes will be selected for professional training. This Festival will have more than 17,000 participants, including over 9,600 athletes, the most ever.”
