Held annually in early September, Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week aims to promote the image of Son La’s land and people and the Moc Chau National Tourist Area to domestic and international visitors, thereby contributing to tourism growth at what has been recognized as a “World’s Leading Nature Destination.”
This year’s program featured a colorful mix of cultural events, including the special art performance “Moc Chau – The Call of Love’s Season,” traditional folk games, cultural and culinary camps, demonstrations of H’Mong embroidery patterns on traditional costumes, and the pounding of sticky rice cakes. Amidst the lively and vibrant sounds of gongs and drums, local ethnic communities and visitors alike immersed themselves in an impressive cultural space.
From spiritual practices, traditional costumes, and farming activities to handicrafts and agricultural products, the cultural richness of Moc Chau's ethnic groups was authentically and vividly showcased.
Do Thi Hien, a visitor from Hanoi, said: “This is my first time visiting Moc Chau during the National Day holiday. The atmosphere is so lively and joyful, and the people are very friendly. I really love it.”
Cao Van Tan from Ninh Binh province said: “I learned about Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week on social media. Coming here, I was truly surprised, especially impressed by the unique and delicious food.”
A highlight of the festival was the community street performance, featuring traditional costumes, musical instruments, and dances, as well as performances of intangible cultural heritage such as the Mong’s panpipe dance, the Dao coming-of-age ritual, and the Thai’s xòe dance.
Trieu Thi Huong, a resident of Van Son ward, Son La, said: “We are honored to showcase the Dao ethnic culture through performances like the bell dance in the street parade, introducing it to visitors from near and far.”
Throughout the week, various exhibitions and activities were organized to highlight the cultural life of local ethnic groups. These included cultural tourism camps displaying spiritual traditions, costumes, jewelry, farm tools, handicrafts, and specialty agricultural products; food competitions; round sticky rice cake making contests; brocade weaving; and ethnic sports and folk games.
