The get-together is held annually by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs to promote the tradition of “remembering the source of the water we drink” and the spirit of national great unity.

This year’s program reflected Vietnam’s growing status in the international arena and the trust of overseas Vietnamese in national development.

Overseas Vietnamese participants attended an incense burning ceremony and a carp release ritual and an exchange for OVs from various countries. President Tran Dai Quang hosts a gala night for them at the National Convention Center in Hanoi on Wednesday. Well-known Vietnamese singers from around the world perform at the event.

Bui Thi Cuc, who has returned from the US, said: “I’m very happy whenever I come back to Vietnam. I receive warm greetings from my relatives and friends. It’s great for me to be in our motherland.”

The Homeland Spring program honors overseas Vietnamese for their contributions to Vietnam and creates a forum for them to share their aspirations and thoughts.
