Public support solicited to eliminate makeshift, dilapidated houses

(VOVWORLD) -The nationwide movement "Working together to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" launched by the Prime Minister is a major effort by the Party and State to help the nation’s poor. Localities have mobilized resources and solicited public support to help poor and near-poor people build solid houses and motivate them to improve their lives.

Eliminating makeshift and dilapidated houses is an important part of sustainable poverty reduction. Localities are embracing Party and State policies and guidelines on poverty reduction associated with new rural development.

Since the beginning of the year, the Fatherland Front of Duc Ninh commune, Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province, has coordinated with other organizations to mobilize support for repairing or building houses for poor families.

Ngo Minh Hoa, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Duc Ninh commune, said, “This year, nine poor households have new houses which were built with funding from agencies, businesses, and individual donors. They have already moved into their new houses.”

The authorities of Nghia Lo town in Yen Bai province have helped build new houses for 85 poor ethnic minority households, social beneficiaries, and poor people unable to work. By the end of October, all 85 houses were handed over to the needy.

Luong Manh Ha, Vice Chairman of Nghia Lo town’s People's Committee, said, “One of the effective things we have done is to raise money from state budgets and private donations. We called on the police, the army, and social organizations to provide volunteer workers. Ethnic minority leaders have persuaded organizations and individuals to help build the houses.”

Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude.

“My family and several neighbors have a new house built by the authorities. I’m very happy to have a new house. It motivates me to try harder to escape poverty.”

“The State and social organizations helped me to get a new house. I’m very happy. My wife and I will now feel secure.”

Localities nationwide are working hard to eliminate every dilapidated house by the end of next year.
