(VOVWORLD) - Severe flooding has devastated central Vietnam in recent days, causing heavy loss of lives and property. But in this challenging time, the Vietnamese spirit of unity and compassion has held strong.

Prompt action by Party and State leaders, rapid delivery of emergency relief supplies to flood-affected areas, and whole-hearted efforts by soldiers and officials working through stormy nights to evacuate isolated households have demonstrated the kindness and united strength of the Vietnamese people.

Peoples safety is the top priority

Upon arriving home from an official visit to the UK, Party General Secretary To Lam immediately traveled to flood-stricken Quang Dien commune in Hue city. He expressed his concern about rising water levels and said the State will provide timely food assistance and put measures in place to help restore normal life. The Party leader urged local authorities to make sure no one goes hungry and everyone has clean water and safe shelter. People’s safety, he said, is the top priority.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued a series of instructions detailing the responsibilities of each ministry and locality: “The Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security must mobilize boats and rescue equipment. The Ministry of Finance is tasked with handling the release of national reserves and immediately allocate funds for disaster recovery, and the Ministries of Agriculture and Health must address issues related to seeds, chemicals, and medicines. Local authorities need to closely monitor material and food reserves and deliver appropriate support.”

Across the country, relief trucks have been heading to flood-hit areas carrying donated food and essential goods to help people rebuild their lives.

Solidarity beyond borders

In the wake of the disaster, the international community has again demonstrated strong solidarity with Vietnam. Numerous governments, international organizations, and development partners have provided emergency supplies, response equipment, and financial aid.

As of late October, Vietnam had received nearly 10 million USD in international aid for disaster relief and recovery efforts. Global partners, including the United Nations, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and dozens of NGOs have activated rapid response mechanisms to deliver essential supplies, water purification systems, sanitation facilities, and temporary housing for displaced families.

Mr. Watanabe Hiroyuki, Chairman of Japan’s AEON Club Foundation, visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Tokyo and presented a cash donation of 50,000USD: “As a company doing business in Vietnam, we want to do our part to help disaster victims overcome their difficulties and quickly return to normal life.”

In recent days, many foreigners living in Vietnam have joined local efforts to support flood victims, donating money and gifts, and even helping clean up debris left by the storm.

In a time of hardship, unity at home and support from the international community have once again helped Vietnam minimize loss, recover swiftly, and stand firm against nature’s destructive power.
