The 10-day Festival will feature an incense offering ceremony in memory of the Hung Kings, worship ceremonies for Lac Long Quan and Au Co, the legendary ancestors of  the Vietnamese nation, a ceremony to commemorate generals of the Hung King period, and a palanquin procession to the Hung Kings Temple.

Bui Van Quang, Chairman of Phu Tho provincial People’s Committee said, “The Festival takes place on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This is an opportunity for Vietnam to preserve and promote its precious heritages and demonstrate its responsible role in UNESCO.”

The highlight of the Festival was a performance last weekend featuring artists from 13 cities and provinces that have UNESCO-recognized intangible heritages.

Ngan Thao of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau delegation performed Đờn ca tài tử, the amateur singing genre of Vietnam’s southern region. "This is the first time I’ve perform here. I feel very moved and proud to introduce Don ca tai tu to so many people,” said Thao.

Hoang Trong Cuong, Deputy Director of the Hue Traditional Royal Art Theater, said his troupe gave four performances of royal dance and chamber music.

“It’s so exciting. We presented Hue Royal Court music and watched performances of other intangible heritages of humanity. This was an excellent opportunity to learn about the culture of other localities,” said Cuong.
