Since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, Vietnamese communities abroad have consistently respected local laws and measures to fight the disease and are playing their part in coping with the pandemic.

The Association of Vietnamese People and the Association of Vietnamese Businesses in Laos have donated 13,000 USD to support the Lao government’s fight against Covid-19. Nguyen Duy Trung, Chairman of the Association of Vietnamese People in Laos, said: “We want to join with the Laotians and the Lao National Committee for Pandemic Prevention in fighting Covid-19. This also helps the Vietnamese people who are living and working here. Covid-19 threatens everyone without exception.”

Farmacia Orient, a Vietnamese-owned company, which owns a system of pharmacies around Moldova,  has donated 600 made-in-Germany COVID-19 test kits to the National Public Health Agency of Moldova.

Stories of Vietnamese people making face masks for local hospitals have been shared on social networks. They believe that to protect doctors is to protect themselves. Minh Thùy, a Vietnamese living in Moscow, said: "First I made face masks for myself and my neighbors. Then I called on other Vietnamese people to make face masks. I was surprised at how many people responded. They sew the face masks at home and then distribute them to people in their apartment complexes.”

Russian online newspapers have run stories about Vietnamese people participating in the fight against Covid-19 expressing their impression that foreigners in Moscow are not indifferent to the pandemic and are willing to give free face masks to their neighbors.
