A tourism space will promote Khmer culture and tourism destinations in Vinh Long province, which now includes the former Vinh Long, Ben Tre, and Tra Vinh provinces.
The highlight of the week will be the Ok Om Bok Festival next Wednesday at the Ao Ba Om relic site, featuring a moon-worship ritual, a lantern releasing ceremony, and traditional Khmer art performances. The Ok Om Bok Festival has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Nguyen Quynh Thien, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Long provincial People’s Committee and Head of the Organizing Committee, said: “The Ok Om Bok Festival is a national intangible cultural heritage event aimed at preserving and promoting ethnic cultural identity. The leaders of Vinh Long province aim to make this event bigger than previous ones.”
Sports activities, including boat and motorbike races, volleyball and football tournaments, fitness exercises, and traditional folk games, will take place throughout the week. Boat racers throughout Vinh Long province have been training hard for the competition. Ma Hoang Khang of the Tra Cu boat team said: “Everyone is training regularly in order to perform better than last year. We’re excited and motivated.”
The Culture, Sports and Tourism Week is a major event that contributes to the economic, cultural, and social development of Vinh Long province and the Mekong Delta region.
