(VOVWORLD) -Hung Yen province is strongly transforming, evolving from its traditional role as an industrial center of the Red River Delta into a multi-modal logistics hub—a crucial link in the northern region's transportation and trade network.

Strategically positioned at the center of the northern key economic triangle, Hung Yen is situated on vital traffic arteries, including national expressway 5A and the Hanoi–Hai Phong expressway. With its advantage as a gateway connecting Hanoi with major seaports, airports, and industrial zones, Hung Yen is repositioning logistics as a key economic driver of the entire production–distribution–import/export value chain.

Tran Quoc Van, Deputy Secretary of Hung Yen’s provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Council, said, "The Congress Resolution has made development of transport a top priority. Along with the main transport axes, we’re developing industrial parks to attract businesses and creating jobs for local people."

This strategic direction has spurred the launch of numerous major infrastructure projects. The construction of the Ba Lat Liquid Cargo Port, which began last July in Hung Phu commune, marks a new chapter for waterway transport and coastal logistics. Capable to receive vessels up to 3,000 tons, the Ba Lat port will facilitate the transport of energy materials and industrial goods and establish a crucial connection between the Hung Yen industrial center and the northern seaport system. This will enable Hung Yen to participate more fully in the coastal supply chain.

Ngo Van Phat, Chairman of the Phu Thanh Group, the project’s investor, said, "Once the project is in operation, it will contribute significantly to attracting investment, improving the quality of life of the locals, and creating employment opportunities, and will add substantially to the province’s revenue."

A core feature of Hung Yen’s logistics infrastructure strategy is integrated investment across all transport modes. The province is studying three urban rail lines as part of its roadmap to becoming a centrally-governed city.

According to Tran Minh Hai, Director of the Project Management Board of Investment and Construction of Transport Works,  "The first rail line will connect the Van Giang urban area to Hung Yen, linking the Hanoi-Hai Phong and the Cau Gie-Ninh Binh expressways. The second line will connect Lac Dao station to the route linking the two expressways and Hung Yen. The third line, running from Van Giang to Hung Yen, will connect the economic, cultural, and tourism heritage of the Red River.”

“In the future, we’ll advise the provincial administration on railway technologies and connection with Hanoi’s rail systems," Hai noted.

In addition to seaports, railways, and roads, Hung Yen is boosting domestic logistics and e-commerce. The SPX Express Cargo Sorting Center, spanning 17 hectares and set to be the largest automated sorting center in Southeast Asia, broke ground in October 2025. When fully operational in 2027, the center will process up to 7 million parcels a day for the northern market and connect to the cross-border distribution network.

This will firmly position Hung Yen as a high-tech logistics center catering to the booming e-commerce demand. Nguyen Kim Anh, Director of SPX Express Vietnam, said the sorting center is a vital part of SPX's comprehensive logistics infrastructure development strategy.

"Modern equipment and automation technology will help us speed up order processing and delivery so we can help sellers, businesses, and local brands optimize operations and meet increasing customer demand, especially during the busy year-end season," Kim Anh explained to VOV.

In addition to infrastructure, Hung Yen is prioritizing administrative reforms, attracting investment in industrial zones, and developing a "clean land" fund to establish smart, modern logistics centers to reduce transportation costs and improve the competitiveness of local businesses.

Developing a multi-modal logistics ecosystem will enable Hung Yen to leverage its geographical advantages to generate a new dynamic for economic growth across the Red River Delta region, complete a commodity supply chain, and boost domestic and international trade.

Logistics development embodies the a strategic, long-term vision of deeper integration into the regional and global economy. A new Hung Yen—more dynamic, better connected, and more competitive—is taking shape day by day.
