(VOVWORLD) - “Make in Vietnam” has become a household word in the IT and digital technology industries in Vietnam in recent years. As the official slogan of Vietnam’s ICT industry, it aims to encourage domestic businesses to develop ecosystems to make Vietnam a global technology powerhouse.

“Make in Vietnam” was first mentioned by the Ministry of Information and Communications at the Vietnam-Myanmar ICT Forum in December, 2018. The forum introduced products and solutions made by Vietnamese ICT businesses such as Viettel, VNPT, MobiFone, FPT and BKAV to Myanmar businesses.
“Make in Vietnam” was later chosen as the theme of an ICT exhibition held as part of a conference on implementing tasks of the information and communications sector in January, 2019. This event also marked the debut of the slogan “Make in Vietnam”.
Information and Communications Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said “Make in Vietnam” means products are created and designed by Vietnamese people. Vietnam masters and develops technologies and is proactive in their production, he noted.
“The 'Make in Vietnam' initiative and spirit present the Vietnamese people’s aspiration and national pride. Vietnam will be unable to become a developed country, go global, and be self-reliant, powerful and prosperous without 'Make in Vietnam',” said Minister Hung.
The Government’s first directive in 2020 – Directive 01 – on boosting the development of Vietnamese digital technology businesses underlined that “Vietnamese digital technology businesses should take the lead and create breakthroughs in implementing the 'Make in Vietnam' strategy in which Vietnamese businesses strive to gradually master technologies, and proactively design and manufacture products, and create new services, solutions, and business models.”

With a strong response from relevant ministries, agencies, and branches and the business community, the slogan “Make in Vietnam” has become a guiding star for the development of digital technology businesses in Vietnam. Major firms have transformed their approach and mastered core technologies. and said:
“Vingroup has focused our investments on technology and industry,” said Vingroup CEO Nguyen Viet Quang.
“We have designed and created our own products. We have mastered core technologies, AI platforms, cloud computing platforms, IoT, and 5G devices,” said former Acting Chairman and Director General of Viettel Le Dang Dung.
In 2020, Vietnam became the 5th country in the world to master 5G technology and produce 5G infrastructure and 5G smartphones.
“Mastering technologies is key to 'Make in Vietnam'. Open technologies are key to mastering them. Vietnam aims to develop open technologies, open sources, and open data to enable businesses to create new products," said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung.
"With this orientation, Vietnam will become a technology country benefiting from mankind’s knowledge and at the same time contributing back to the humanity of the world. Developing and mastering digital technologies based on open standards are Vietnam’s commitment and strategy. Open technologies will pave the way for every firm, regardless of their business area, to become a tech firm. Every firm should become a tech firm.”
Minister Hung said digital technology businesses will continue to be the pioneering and core force in the national digital transformation strategy. Vietnam’s goal of having 100,000 digital technology businesses by 2030 will likely be achieved by 2025. Vietnamese digital technology businesses will contribute to realizing Vietnam’s goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045, according to Minister Hung.
“'Make in Vietnam' aims to solve Vietnam’s technology issues, aid Vietnam’s development, help Vietnam go global and contribute to mankind’s development. 'Make in Vietnam' aims to help Vietnam master technologies, protect itself, and become powerful and prosperous. Each individual and business should begin every big aspiration with a small action and implement that small action with a big aspiration and love,” he said.
“Make in Vietnam” has become the motivation and inspiration for Vietnam’s digital technology businesses. In addition to assembling and processing, many Vietnamese tech firms have been working hard to master technologies, design and create products, and be proactive in production in the digital revolution with the “Make in Vietnam” spirit.
