eGap technology helps promote e‑agriculture in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam Digital Economy Cooperatives Association (VDECA) has developed the eGap agricultural digital management solution package deployed on the egap.vn platform. This is an information portal for the management, supervision, traceability, and connection of agricultural markets. The portal has been deployed in 10 provinces and cities nationwide.

Egap.vn serves the management and traceability of 4 commodity groups: crops, livestock, fisheries, and agricultural processing. The software acquires electronic logs, using both the Android and iOS platforms. With the use of electronic diaries, field cameras, real-time storage of information on the entire production chain, and monitoring and supervision of growing areas, farmers are guaranteed a stable output for their products and solid conditions for sustainable cultivation and animal husbandry. Also through this application, the producer knows in advance the buyer and prices of their products so that they can develop and implement their production plans in a transparent manner under the supervision of their customer. The customer can check all information about the products by scanning a QR code.

“This solution system has been applied in the agricultural sector. Millions of farmers will benefit from it via mobile phones. The system will continue to be upgraded,” Dr. Mai Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Digital Economy Cooperative Association, said.

Egap.vn was put into service in the northern mountainous province of Son La in August, 2018. The Na Po cooperative in Mai Son district was one of the first cooperatives to pilot this portal. Before egap.vn was introduced, it took cooperative members a lot of time and effort to provide customers with information about the products’ origin and production process which was recorded manually. Now with egap.vn, they only need a smart phone with an internet connection to meet this requirement and promote their products.

Dr. Mai Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Digital Economy Cooperatives Association, said, “We have worked with the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and are installing weather radar which can deliver warnings of whirlwinds, thunderstorms and hail storms to mobile phones one or two hours in advance.”

As Vietnam integrates extensively into the world, production and product management has become an urgent issue.

Using advanced technology in the management, monitoring, traceability and connection of agricultural markets is an inevitable trend in the agricultural sector to change farming practices, improve product quality and value, and meet consumer needs.

Digital transformation is also the key to effectively building and developing a safe agricultural supply chain model while helping Vietnamese agriculture develop sustainably.
