(VOVworld) – The 27th Southeast Asian Games (Sea Games) officially opened on Wednesday at Wunna Theikdi stadium, Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, with a vibrant, colorful ceremony reflecting local traditions. A performance of music and light involving 8,000 artists introduced the formation and development of Myanmar. The ceremony, themed “Green, Clean, and Friendship” delivered a call for a green earth while honoring the unity of ASEAN members. Myanmar took this occasion to promote its image to the world.

Vietnam has sent 519 athletes to the regional competition. It is hoping to finish among the top 3 in the medal tally with about 70 to 85 gold medals.

Several events of the 27th Sea Games began a week ago. As of Wednesday, Myanmar topped the medal list with 18 gold medals, followed by Vietnam with 10 gold medals.
