(VOVworld) - A US doctor who spent time treating Ebola patients in Sierra Leone died from the virus on Monday. Officials at the Nebraska Medical Center said Dr. Martin Salia died from advanced stages of Ebola though he had received the drug ZMapp. Salia contracted the virus while working as an Ebola volunteer doctor in Sierra Leone. He was the 10th patient in the US to receive treatment for Ebola, and the second to die of the disease.

Last month, Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan died of Ebola at a hospital in Texas. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Homeland Security's Customs & Border Protection have added Mali to the list of Ebola-affected nations for which enhanced screening and monitoring measures will be taken.
According to the latest date by the WHO, 5,177 people have died of Ebola in eight countries since 2013, out of a total of 14,413 cases.
